![]() ![]() While heavily expected to be a third-person adventure, the world was shocked and naturally apprehensive when it turned out that we would be going behind the eyes of Samus in a first-person shooter style of gameplay. Metroid Prime was the series’ first foray into the 3D world outside of Samus’ appearance in the N64 Super Smash Bros. I mean why mess with a classic, am I right? For better or worse, this is the same narrative experience as it was originally released on the Nintendo GameCube and later on the Wii. Metroid Prime Remastered follows the same narrative beats that in the original Metroid Prime, so don’t be expecting any extra story content or lore. Metroid Prime didn’t quite buck the trend but it started to take the series in a stronger direction when it came to story. It isn’t until you spend a little more time playing that you will notice the differences. While the gameplay is distinct, in terms of story, Super Metroid and a large bulk of Metroid Prime feel like remakes of the original Metroid and this is one of the main reasons. While Metroid does have quite an interesting story behind it and the rivalry between Samus and Ridley has become a thing of legend, the narrative has always been a little behind the scenes when compared to the actual gameplay. It’s all completely optional and you’ll still get a fairly rewarding tale. ![]() There are more cutscenes than seen in titles prior to the original release and tankers full of stuff you can scan to learn the grander scale of things but on the flip side, you don’t have to. Now Metroid has never really been a series to bombard you with cinematics and lore and Metroid Prime Remastered is no exception. What ensues is a little dive into the history of Samus, The Space Pirates, The Chozo Race, and of course the eponymous Metroid species. Samus steps foot on the planet and after a brief walk around it becomes quite apparent that it’s no coincidence that the Space Pirates were here. After a short time on the ship acting as a tutorial, you chase Ridley down to the planet Tallon IV. Samus Aran the intergalactic bounty hunter answers a distress call from a spaceship under attack from Space Pirates led by Samus’ nemesis Ridley. Metroid Prime Remastered starts as just about every Metroid in existence does. Then Nintendo just shadow-drop the Metroid Prime Remastered out of nowhere during a Nintendo Direct. Up until recently, this was just hearsay. Following the release of Metroid Dread, there has been rumor upon rumor of a Metroid Prime Collection or Remaster. ![]() ![]() ![]() The vulnerability CVE-2021-3972 gives attackers control over several UEFI firmware settings. SMM, System Management Mode, is used for various tasks, including the secure updating of a device's firmware or the execution of proprietary code by OEMs.ĮSET notes that any Windows administrator, with the SE_SYSTEM_ENVIRONMENT_NAME privilege, may exploit the vulnerability using the "Windows API function SetFirmwareEnvironmentVariable". The attacked system allows SPI flash to be modified, even when executed from non-SMM code, resulting in attackers being able to write malicious code directly to the firmware storage. With the variable set, the platform's firmware will skip the execution of code that is "responsible for the setting up BIOS Control Register and Protected Range register-based SPI flash protections". Successful exploitation disables SPI flash write protections. The primary line of defense is "provided by the special memory-mapped configuration registers exposed by the chipset itself – the BIOS Control Register and five Protected Range registers".ĬVE-2021-3971 may be exploited by creating the NVRAM variable. ![]() Manufacturers created several security mechanisms to protect the SPI flash against unauthorized modifications. Malwares such as LOJAX, the first UEFI rootkit found in the wild, MosaicRegressor, or MoonBounce, targeted the memory in attacks. Since it is non-volatile, it is a high-level target for threat actors. An administrator could erase a device's hard drive, install another operating system, and the memory would not be changed by the procure. The memory is independent of the operating system, which means that it remains even if the operating system is reinstalled or another system is installed. It is connected to the processor via the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). UEFI firmware is usually stored on the in an embedded flash memory chip on the computer's motherboard. ![]() The vulnerability CVE-2021-3971 can be exploited to disable SPI protections on Lenovo devices. ![]() Lenovo published the security advisory on April 18 and ESET its findings and details a day later. Lenovo released updated firmware versions for some of the affected products. The full list of affected devices is available on the Lenovo support website. The vulnerabilities affect several Lenovo device families, including Lenovo IdeaPad 3, Flex 3, 元40, Legion 5 and 7, Legion Y540, S14, S145, S540, Slim 7 and 9, V14 and V15, and Yoga Slim 7 devices. It appears that Lenovo did not deactivate these properly in production devices. Lenovo reveals on the website that several of its notebook devices are affected by three different vulnerabilities - CVE-2021-3970, CVE-2021-3971, and CVE-2021-3972 - that could allow attackers with elevated privileges to execute arbitrary code or disable SPI flash protections during the operating system runtime.ĮSET, the security company that discovered the vulnerabilities and reported them to Lenovo, discovered that two of the vulnerabilities affect UEFI firmware drivers that were meant only for use in the manufacturing process. ![]() ![]() ![]() Starting in Salerno on the Amalfi coastline and stretching all the way up to Rome's imposing colosseum, this turn-based grand strategy layer lets you pick and choose your battles in whatever order you see fit, offering up a compelling mix of small skirmish battles and larger, more bespoke real-time mission maps as you go about capturing supply points and wiping out German defences with air, sea and land attacks. Whereas previous games presented you with a traditional set of real-time strategy battles one after another, the first and largest of Company Of Heroes 3's single player operations does things a little bit differently, giving you free rein to tromp through the whole of Italy's southern calf with its large, open-ended Total War-style campaign map. Or at least that's true of its many, many real-time mission maps. Let up the pressure even for a moment and your supply points will be wrestled back from under your nose, resulting in the same tense and thrilling scraps that Company Of Heroes made its name on. It remains brilliantly well-paced, and its backbone of building up your forces, positioning them into clever spots of cover, capturing territory and countering enemy advances with its wide array of upgradeable units is as strong as ever. While it may not dwell much on the lingering horrors of war, this is a real-time strategy game that thrives on building and maintaining the confident forward march of its respective victors. That's not to say Company Of Heroes 3 is a one-sided power fantasy, of course. I think we could all do with a bit of that in this day and age, even if the battles before you end up feeling like nothing more than the digital equivalent of plonking down a big box of toy soldiers on your living room floor and going daka-daka-daka as they all fall over. But while your main objective is always one of domination, gradually turning the map from red to blue on both a micro and macro scale, this is ultimately a game about searing comebacks - of beating back seemingly impossible aggressors, and finding hope where previously there was only despair. It's a feeling that might seem out of place given the current climate, especially now, just days away from the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. With two campaigns spanning each side of the sunny Mediterranean, this is arguably Relic's breeziest and most colourful theatre of war yet, evoking the same kind of swagger and gung ho optimism as a Hollywood action flick. Its enormous Italian operation could have more tension in the way you conquer the map, but its RTS battles remain as compelling as ever, and the sheer breadth and variety on offer here will please new and veteran players alike.Īfter the mud and forests of Normandy, and the grim, snowy climes of the Eastern Front, Company Of Heroes 3 feels like World War II on its summer holiday. After ten years away, Company Of Heroes 3 returns with two stonkingly good single-player campaigns and a bevy of multiplayer options. ![]() ![]() Arguably, Darktable is a more powerful software than LR. However as the trial has now ended I can’t review some of my FAQ. This game stands out and I’m glad I played the trial. I’ve played a lot of games over the years. I was around for the original Sim City on DOS and have been playing PC games for decades. It’s a time hog and I found myself up well past midnight still playing a game, eating late meals and neglecting other activities! Thankfully for the most part, my better have joined me for the trial period and sat side by side on our own computers we had a lot of fun. To me it all appears well thought out with nice attention to detail. Double clicking on one of your ships takes you to its location. Zooming in and you start to see people, their carts and animals. You’re able to adjust the view, but most of the time I was zoomed out. Even the artwork when the game was loading was excellent!! To me the graphics feel painted, the music and sounds are excellent and on my old Quad 2 Core PC, the game play was smooth. Perhaps there is more to it, but I was only playing the trial and for me, that was enough to get me hooked! You build a town and industries on islands, go on small quests, trade with others and have some ship battles. To me, this game feels like a mixture of Age of Empires, Sim City and Windward. I will provide a review below, but what a lot of people might find helpful is the FAQ I’ve written further down. For me, the trial has been worthwhile and I appreciate the opportunity. I showed it to my fiancée who then also joined in and played the trial with me using the multiplayer option. I won’t hesitate to mention I enjoyed playing the game. It is a massive download and I did run into a problem getting the game to run, which I’ve documented here to help others. When I found out that Epic Games and Ubisoft were doing a free trial, I didn’t hesitate to try it out. I had been aware of the Anno series for a while, but hadn’t played the Anno 1800 game due to price, but also because I own so many other games and I’m wary of the time this type of game can take up. Please note: This isn’t a sponsored post and nobody from Epic Games or Ubisoft contacted me. This is a blog post about the Anno 1800 PC game trial, a review and has answers to frequently asked questions. ![]() ![]() ![]() Rather than the loud, clunky movements of the G920 the G Pro is buttery smooth with resistance that feels much more like driving an actual car (not that I’ve ever sent it 300kph into a chicane in my Mazda 3 before). I expected it to feel better but didn’t expect it to feel quite this good. It massively is.Īfter bolting it to the Playseat Trophy Logitech G Edition (which is excellent, by the way) I found the difference between the gear-driven G920 and the direct-drive G Pro wheel astonishing. If you’re wondering whether moving to direct drive is much of an upgrade? It is. It feels like a safe bet to assume that a Logitech G Pro is not going to be your first racing wheel and chances are you’ll be looking to upgrade from one of the belt or gear-driven options in our list of the best PS5 steering wheels. Speaking of which, cleverly Logitch has gone with a flat edge to the back of the G Pro Pedals, so it’ll butt up securely against a wall if you’re not using a cockpit. There’s ample platform space for your heels and while plastic, it’s heavily textured and offers enough friction to stop feet sliding around. Once again there’s a fair bit of plastic in the G Pro Pedals but they’re rock solid overall with metal faceplates that should stand the test of time. I also found no bother in using these with a bespoke gaming chair like the Playseat Trophy Logitech G Edition. Each can be moved side to side, the pedal faceplates can be seated in a range of positions or you can get rid of one entirely if you’d rather just a two-pedal setup. The frankly massive footprint houses three pedals with an impressive amount of modular customization on offer. There’s a lot on offer here, though you’d want there to be given the pedals alone cost more than the complete Logitech G920 wheel and pedal combo. The two twist knobs are a nice addition though I found there was limited support for them in the Xbox games I tried.įrom a design and build standpoint, the Logitech G Pro pedals might well be Driver of the Day. While they’re never far away I found that apart from the outer letter buttons, nothing was within reach without adjusting my hand position. There’s an almost overwhelming amount of buttons and inputs across the face of the wheel in what Logitech calls a “thumbsweep layout”, with everything hugging the outer edge of the central, metal-plated panel. These can be bound to a number of options like acceleration and braking by using either Logitech’s G Hub software on PC or the onboard controls - a nice accessibility option. Below them is a pair of dual-clutch paddles with greater and smoother travel than their magnetic counterparts. The movement is crisp and responsive with a soft clack giving nice audio feedback at the same time - not dissimilar to the Xbox Elite Series 2 at times, or some of the other best Xbox Series X controllers. Under your fingertips, you’ll find magnetic gear shift paddles which feel wonderful in action. Somewhat strangely, Logitech has opted for a micro-USB connection between the wheelbase itself and the PC/console, it’s recessed in a molded housing so alignment isn’t an issue but surely a premium 2022 release of this price warrants USB-C? Features if you're graduating to the G Pro from one of the older Xbox steering wheels, maybe have a check to see if your pedals will be compatible here. This USB approach for peripherals is fine and saves on case-side USB ports for folks playing on one of the best gaming PCs, but it also means the G920 pedals aren’t compatible without a paid adapter. What I did notice, however, is the fan never wanted to turn itself off, even with the Xbox Series X and Logitech G Pro both fully switched off the fan purred constantly on its lowest setting unless the USB cable was pulled out.Īround the back, a USB hub provides connection points for the G Pro Pedals (which you’ll need to buy separately) and other accessories like a gear shifter. ![]() It’s a smooth operator too and I noticed no clips or rattles across a few hours of testing. The fan isn’t silent but was also never loud enough to be noticeable over the game audio. They serve a purpose beyond aesthetics though with active onboard cooling hidden inside. Stylized grilles cover the front and back of the Logitech G Pro base and add a touch of flair to an otherwise plain chassis. ![]() ![]() ![]() Power up a Pokémon 10 times (Galarian Zigzagoon or Alolan Sandslash encounter).Power up a Pokémon 5 times (Magikarp, Spheal, or Wimpod encounter).Pokémon Go ‘2023 World Championship Celebration’ event Field Research Win 5 trainer battles in the Great League (5,000 Stardust).Win a trainer battle in the Great League (1,000 Stardust).Battle another trainer in the Great League (500 Stardust).Rewards: 10 Marill Candy, 10 Eevee Candy, 10 Vullaby Candy Step 3 of 3 ![]()
